The Station Singers’ recent concert ‘A Merry Ringtime - Songs for Springtime’, in aid of Riding for the Disabled and St Mary’s Church, Richmond, raised over £1,400 in support of its two charities. 120 voices singing “Some enchanted evening” set the evening off in fine form. Each choir then took the stage, high points being a spirited rendition of the folksong “Pleasant and delightful” by the Branch Line choir, a sensitive and thought-provoking performance of the Native American Indian chant, “Shoshone Love Song”, and the spirited jazzy setting of Shakespeare’s “Pretty ringtime” from the Platform 2 choir. Members of the audience joined in community singing with much laughter as Kay produced a riding hat and bicycle helmet to encourage enthusiasm for “Daisy Bell”. Many felt the highlight of the night was the combined choirs’ strength and musicality in the closing performance of ‘Phantom of the Opera’. Lovely songs to round off a lovely community evening. The RDA (Richmond & Catterick and Bedale branches) offers supported riding groups for local school children and lessons for independent disabled riders, sharing its philosophy of “It’s what you can do that counts”. St Mary’s Church has had a long association with The Station Singers and is always proud to host the concerts. Both charities provided front of house on the night and they did a great job in supporting the choir and the audience. Raffle prizes and refreshments were provided by generous donations from all.
